UrbanTide EcoCycle

Innovation through recollection

UrbanTide EcoCycle defines our "new old" generation of aquaponics, which breaks away from complex and expensive high-tech systems.
We think of EcoCycle as the philosophy of innovation by going back to natural, biological processes.
The core approach:
EcoCycle replaces complex, vulnerable, energy-intensive technology with nature's robust, highly efficient tools that have been tried and tested for millions of years.
The promise:
We make aquaponics accessible, cost-efficient and resilient by developing systems that rely on the power of biology to the maximum and technology to the minimum.

The 3 pillars of the UrbanTide EcoCycle principle

licensed-image.jpeg

Pillar 1: Biological robustness

Core principle: Use of high-performance biological carriers that stabilize the system instead of controlling it chemically or technologically.
The EcoCycle Way:
Animal : Focus on extremely robust, forgiving and efficient species (e.g. tilapia) as a highly efficient protein and nutrient producer.
Plant : Use of robust and nutrient-rich varieties tailored to the ecosystem and local needs
Filter : Use of natural, long-lasting substrates to create the ideal surface for microbes (the actual filter). No use of plastic filling material.

Pillar 2: Functionality by design

Core principle: Applying simple physical laws of mechanical filtration and water movement to avoid expensive, maintenance-intensive components.

The EcoCycle Path :
Mechanical filtration : Utilizing the whirlpool effect (centrifugal force) or simple sedimentation basins to remove solids from the water. Inspired by proven, simple processes (e.g. brewery technology).
Minimal technology : Reduction of electrical components to the bare minimum.
"As little technology as possible, as much as useful."

Pillar 3: Regional resource efficiency

Core principle: Reduce capital and operating costs (CAPEX/OPEX) by favoring locally available and recycled materials.
The EcoCycle Path :
Materials : Use of readily available components and materials.
Construction : Simple, modular and low maintenance design, which allows construction and maintenance with easy training and minimal tools.

Think anew. Just build. Live UrbanTide EcoCycle.
